May 1, 2021 - change to Phase 3

3/1/2021 - UNAVCO has moved to Phase 3 of the COVID-19 policy, allowing 50% occupancy of physical facilities and domestic work related travel if vaccinated. The full Phase 3 policy for staff is on the internal Confluence site. Staff are required to be familiar with and follow guidance from local governing health entities.

February 1, 2021 - change to Phase 2

Effective 2/1/2021, UNAVCO has moved to Phase 2 of the COVID-19 policy. Employees may enter physical facilities provided they distance to the maximum extend practicable. Staff are encouraged to work from home as much as possible. Travel is suspended except for Director-approved exceptions. Refer to the reopening plan for details.

November 18, 2020 - change to Phase 1 (Closure/Limited Operations of Facilities and Mandatory Social Distancing)

UNAVCO’s operational status has moved back to phase 1. This change allows stronger measures to protect the health of employees and to do our part to minimize interactions that could transmit the virus. As a reminder, phase 1 requires work-from-home except for essential employees and imposes restrictions on all travel. Staff are required to follow guidance set forth in the reopening plan available here.

June 1, 2020 - COVID-19 related reopening: Phase 2

Based on state and local guidance, our operations policy, and the results of the work survey, we have decided to move UNAVCO to Phase 2 operations effective Monday, June 1. This means that employees may work at UNAVCO facilities if they prefer, although we encourage all employees to continue to work from home as much as possible. Travel is still suspended except for Director-approved exceptions. Staff are required to follow guidance set forth in the reopening plan available here.

May 15, 2020 - Reopening Plan related to COVID-19

UNAVCO Senior Management has developed a reopening policy for all facilities. Staff can locate the 4 phase approach online here. We will remain in Phase 1 through at least June 1.

  • Phase 1: Closure/Limited Operations of Facilities and Mandatory Social Distancing

  • Phase 2: Limited Opening of Facilities and Staff Safety Requirements

  • Phase 3: Expanded Opening of Facilities

  • Phase 4: Fully Operational Facilities with No Restrictions

April 29, 2020 - 2020 GAGE/SAGE Workshop Postponed

Due to the COVID-19 situation, the Board of Directors for UNAVCO and IRIS have agreed to postpone the in-person GAGE/SAGE Science Workshop until August 2021 (exact dates will be confirmed soon). This decision was reached after much deliberation.

Although it will be another year before a large in-person Science Workshop, we are working to set up virtual opportunities for the seismic and geodesy communities to engage in the interim and will keep you posted.

April 14, 2020 - COVID-19

The UNAVCO Senior Management Team reaffirms our commitment to remote work. Employees who can complete their professional responsibilities with any combination of remote and on-site effort may do so at least until the end of FFCRA implementation on December 31, 2020. All employees are bound to the terms of their job description and performance goals regardless of the geography of work, and should coordinate closely with their supervisor to make sure that those terms and goals are met. Please refer to the UNAVCO Employee Handbook section 3.3 Work Schedules.

We will continue to review policies around COVID-19 to protect the health and well-being of our employees and the organization regularly, and provide updates at least monthly while federal, state, and local policies are changing rapidly.

April 1, 2020 - COVID-19

Remote work guidance and travel restrictions as previously outlined for UNAVCO staff are extended until May 1, 2020. Planning for travel and work activities after May 1 can continue, but purchase of tickets, lodging, or other logistical arrangements should be deferred as long as possible; per policy, arrangements may be made as late as 10 days prior to travel.

If employees require modifications to work schedules or work hours to care for sick or quarantined family members or to care for children who are not in school or care, refer to eFMLA regulation information (below) and reach out to HR.

March 25, 2020 - COVID-19

UNAVCO will move all 2020 internship programs to a remote model with virtual programming. May workshops will be cancelled or postponed. Decisions on other summer programming will be made in April. Contact education [at] unavco.org with questions.

Staff should be aware that UNAVCO is following guidance for the Families First Coronavirus Response Act; refer to the staff mail from 3/25/2020 for additional information.

March 18, 2020 - COVID-19

UNAVCO continues to follow remote work guidance established on 3/13/2020. In addition to prohibiting travel on common carriers, we are now also barring staff travelers from staying in public or commercial lodging. Field work using UNAVCO or private vehicles is still allowed and must follow this guidance.

We are currently still planning for summer travel and meetings, but actual travel arrangements are on hold for all events.

We are following state and federal recommendations and will update guidance accordingly.

All persons are reminded to follow the specific guidance and requirements for their own location; the main facility is complying with Boulder County and Colorado guidance.

March 13, 2020 - COVID-19

All non-essential UNAVCO employees in the Boulder office will work from home starting Monday, March 16 for at least three weeks. Essential staff remain on site. This decision is made based on the growing number of local cases of COVID-19 and the closure of several Front Range school districts.

We intend for UNAVCO to continue all operations with as little disruption as possible through our remote work model. Field operations will continue as planned as long as travel does not require common carriers. Other employee travel is restricted through April 15. We continue to plan to execute activities with dates after April 15. If you have a PI project requiring support or believe your science support may be impacted, please reach out to your UNAVCO point of contact.

We are reevaluating the situation on a regular basis and will communicate any changes here.

March 11, 2020 - COVID-19

UNAVCO is monitoring the dynamic situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic. At this time, we have restricted travel for staff and supported participants through April 15. We are currently planning for educational activities including internships, short courses, workshops and PI support with dates after April 15. If you have a PI project requiring support or believe your science support may be impacted, please reach out to your UNAVCO point of contact.

We will re-evaluate the situation on a regular basis and communicate any changes here.
